Dr. Beyong Il Kim is a neonatologist with a special interest in both clinical and basic research focused on bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), which is one of the most challenging chronic complications in preterm infants.
His current status is a professor of Department of Pediatrics, Seoul National University College of Medicine and the chairman of Department of Pediatrics, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital.
Dr. Kim is a pioneer of clinical and basic research on the epidemiology and pathogenesis of BPD in korea and asia-oceania region. His group is now one of the leading groups of research activities on BPD research in the world. Dr. Kim’s research interest is currently on the changing epidemiology of BPD and the pathogenesis of BPD, especially concerning with the role of antenatal inflammation.
Current projects included clinical and basic research: i) Epidemiology of Respiratory Syncytial Virus infection in BPD patients; ii) Clinical characterization of atypical BPD; iii) Animal model for atypical BPD iv) Basic research on the role of hypoxia-inducible factor-1 alpha in the pathogenesis of BPD.
Dr. Kim published many clinical and basic research papers on BPD. He has also been invited to many domestic and international conferences to give a lecture on BPD many times.
